HAPPY TO BE HOME
OBJECTIVE
Partnering with illustrator Sienne Diaz, we were brought onto the Magnolia team to build the foundation for the first season of home renovation show "Happy to be Home," now rebranded as "Anything But Gray".

Sienne's illustrations reflected designer Gray Benko's playful approach to reviving southern historic homes, and each episode used animation as a device to move the narrative, highlight details, and bring energy towards the final reveal. With over 15 animated graphic elements created per episode, we pleasantly surprised the network with this new take on renovations.

REVEAL
In this segment, the aim is to simulate the designer's vision for the house, whether interior or exterior. Illustrator Sienne Diaz and I created little "easter eggs" for the viewer in each episode: a sizzling plate of bacon, flowers in a vase gently waving, a goldfish jumping in a fishbowl. For the floor plan, our producers wanted something that reflected the spirit of Gray Benko's renovations. We add a firefly circling the graphic, "illuminating" each room.
This is Act II of each episode, where the designer pitches her plan for the entire project, down to the lampshades and drawer pulls. With a hand drawn sketch of each room, we made a "collage" of the featured changes. The feel is intended to be homespun, lighthearted, but still true to Gray Benko's design.
